The CP-Relay2 board, short for Charge Pump relay board uses the 12 kHz signal from the parallel port generated by the CNC software to operate a relay. Any piece of machinery that uses powerful motors can be dangerous if controlled by a computer that can be in an unknown state while being powered up or in a software crash condition. Using this relay to disable power to motors is a safety device in that it only switches the relay on when the software is running correctly.

The board is able to take signals from a standard parallel port and switch power lines to stepper motor etc up to 12 Amps at 24V DC. The relay contacts are rated at 2400 Watts or 240V AC at 10 Amps or 300 Watts DC. If this is not sufficient it could easily switch power to the coil of larger relay/contactor, perhaps controlling a three phase motor.

The board has two inputs one a standard relay board switching motors, pumps etc under software control. The other a charge pump circuit that can be set to normal operation if required. It has it’s own on board 12V regulator which has plenty of spare capacity to drive other circuits. The board has three LED’s one indicating power on the 12V rail a second and third that illuminates when the relays are activated. Power to the board can be in the range of 14V minimum to 35V Maximun.
