The Basic parallel breakout board has no been replace by the PCPPS Parallel board, which is available in three versions. PCPPS-1 is the basic breakout board but has been improved by using direct named connections rather than pin numbers. This saves a lot of confusion as to what connections are used for what purpose. Further enhancements are more ground connections and the fact that the board can be upgraded if required.

PCPPS-2 Charge Pump version

PCPPS-2 has the addition of charge pump circuitry and uses the 12 kHz signal from the parallel port generated by the CNC software to operate a logic control enable line. Any piece of machinery that uses powerful motors can be dangerous if controlled by a computer that can be in an unknown state while being powered up or in a software crash condition. Using this signal output to control the Sleep or Enable lines on the stepper motor boards until software is running correctly. The board uses the 12KHz signal on pin one to feed the charge pump circuit and has a force link override for test purposes. It has it’s own on board 5V regulator for the power supply which has plenty of spare capacity to drive other circuits, sensors, switches etc. The board has a LED that illuminates when the charge pump signal is present. Power to the board can be in the range of 7V minimum to 35V Maximum and can usually taken form the main stepper motor supply rail. The design is fully RoHS compliant and comes with manual.

PCPPS-3 PS (Power Save) version

PCPPS-3 Is the full version that has power save and charge pump circuits.
The power save line when coupled to the DRV25PS boards reduces the standing current in the stepper motors to approx 30% of it’s normal value. This prevents unnecessary heating of boards motors and power supplies while in an idle state. As soon as stepper pulses are detected on any of the X,Y or Z inputs full power is immediately restored for maximum power. A green LED on the PCPPS board illuminates when in low power mode and goes out under working conditions. A short delay of half a second upon cessation of pulses re-activates the power save mode.

As there was a needed modification to the design the CPPS-3 is only available ready built.
